Rahmatganj dump Brothers
Dhaka, January 11: Rahmatganj moved into the quarterfinal of the Gramenphone Federation Cup as the runners-up of group D with a 3-3 draw against Brothers Union at the BSSMMK Stadium, Kamalapur on Wednesday.
Brothers Union was reduced to ten men in the 72nd minute as Khan Md. Tara saw the red card.
Brothers midfielder Kabir Hossain put his team ahead in the 31st minute after Nigerian forward Olalekan Joshua curved a cross from the right flank and it was cleared by the defence. Kabir standing unmarked at the top of the box unleashed a powerful shot to score the goal (1-0).
Rahmatganj equalized in the injury time of the first half through their Nigerian forward Lucky Divine. Taking control of a Shankar Das through pass Divine dribbled past two defenders and placed the in the far post (1-1).
Rahmatganj took the lead just two minutes after the re-start and it was Divine again. Idris Kasirye’s volley on a Michael Dumba lob was punched by Brothers goalie Sabbuj Das Raghu but Divine found the rebounder and scored his second with a gentle push (2-1).
Brothers Union put the pressure on and was level in the 58th minute. Nigerian forward Kingsley cut back to Anik from the right flank and Anik scored with right footer from left edge of the box (2-2)
Brothers was reduced to ten men in the 72nd minute when defender Khan Md. Tara was sent off for pulling down Divine a at the edge of the box and Guinean midfielder Konte Bangoura scored the third from the resulting free kick (3-2).
With just one minute left Rahmatganj defender Shayamal Ahmed Rony fouled Kingsley inside the box and Nigerian defender Adams Jankasha converted the penaltyaa (3-3.)_
