Russel at the top
Dhaka, Jan 13: Sheikh Russel KC rode on a brace by Alamu Bukola to finish at the top of group C beating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club 2-1 in the Grameenphone Federation Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
With the victory, Russel secured maximum 9 points from three appearances while Jamal finished second with 6 points. The result confirms Russel will now face Arambagh in the quarterfinals as when Jamal will have to take on holders Abahani on Tuesday.
Nigerian striker Alamu Bukola Olalekan broke the deadlock in the 45th minute. Taking control of a Jahed’s chip from the right flank Bukola dribbled past two defenders and placed the in the far post (1-0).
He doubled the lead in the 57th minute by a cross. The veteran striker’s cross touched sheikh Jamal defender Mintu Sheikh before entering into the net. (2-0)
Monayem Khan Raju reduced the margin for Sheikh Jamal in the 79th minute by a powerful shot on a Nigerian midfielder Kester Akon’s cutback. (2-1)
