BJMC clinch Women’s Title
Dhaka, January 27: Team BJMC clinched the title of the first Walton Women’s Corporate Football League beating Sheltech by 2-0 goals in the penalty shootout after the stipulated time of final ended 1-1 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
Though Sheltech dominated the scene Team BJMC got the first chance to score in the 32nd minute. Ace forward Sabina took the advantage of a weak clearance of the Sheltec defence after a Mukta through pass but placed the ball wide of the side post from a close range.
Midfielder Farhana Khatun put her ream ahead in the 44th minute after her free kick from abut 30 yards curved into the net with BJMC goalie Sabina trying to grip the ball instead of punching it (1-0).
After the break Sheltech continued the pressure and BJMC captain Dalia saved her team from conceding another in the 63rd minute. Onrushing Sabina blocked Sui Nu Marma’s shot and Jahanara Akhter Janu headed the ball but Dalia cleared it in front of the open net.
BJMC was unfortunate in the 77th minute as a cross of Eti found Dalia in the middle of the box but Sabina saw her shot hit the crosspiece.
However it was Sabina who scored the equalizer in the 89th minute to throw the match into the shoot out. Running past her marker with a substitute midfielder Lina through pass Sabina placed the ball into the far post from the middle of the box (1-1).
In the penalty shootout Eti and Bithi scored from the spot while BJMC’s national goalie Sabina Akhter saved three shots of Aung Mra Ching Marma, Suinu Pru Marma and Nubai Ching Chakma and Trishna Chakma shot wide. Team BJMc’s Sharmin and Sabina failed to convert.
The Champion team received Tk 40,000 and Runners up Tk 20,000. Sabina Khatun of BJMC awarded as Highest Scorer While Farhana Khatun of Sheltech adjudged the Best Player of the League.
