BPL kicks off on Wednesday
Dhaka, January 31: The Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League, the lone professional football league of the country kicks off with defending champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi facing returnees Team BJMC at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.
The fifth edition of the professional league will be inaugurated by Obadiul Kader, the communication minister.
In the Federation Cup final Sheikh Jamal beat Team BJMC 3-1 to clinch the title. However the match will be a memorable moment for Team BJMC who will mark their presence in the top flight football after 29 years and will also make their debut in the professional league.
Sheikh Jamal coach Saiful Bari Titu has cautioned his players about the complacency. “As the champions of the last edition and also the Federation Cup winners the players are motivated but I have cautioned them about being over confident, a tournament and a league is not the same, the long journey starts with the and slow and steady wins the race” said Titu.
Team BJMC coach Zakaria Babu was ready to fight it out. “We are high on confidence and the players are eager to take the field, they know the league is the most important competition and they have the experience with them, we don’t want to remember what happened in the past, it’s a new day and a new competition” said Babu..
