Dhaka, July 29: Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club
have showcased a disciplined and tactical performance to start their ‘Saif
Power Battery Bangladesh Premier League 2017’ with a 2-0 win over Dhaka
Mohammedan on Saturday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Sheikh Jamal’s pressing game cornered Mohammedans from the very outset and forward
Nurul Absar hit the side bar in the 6th minute much to the dismay of his
teammates.
Mohammedan then strengthened their
defence line to tackle Jamal’s controlled attacks. They opted for a counter
attacking strategy preferring the flanks.
It was Sheikh Jamal had the lead in the 43rd minute, as Gambian forward Mamadou
Bah took control of an angular pass of midfielder Omar Faruk Babu and swerved
to deceive his marker before slotting the ball into the near post net (1-0).
Mohammedan piled up pressure again in the 51st minute of the second half when
Nkowcha Kingsley’s goal mouth melee missed the target by a few inches.
Jamal sealed the fate of the match in the 84th minute when Mohammedan defender
Md. Monir scored an own goal while trying to clear a low cross of Jahed Parvez
Chowdhury with a back volley (2-0).
