Dhaka, July 30: Chittagong Abahoni Limited got off the starting block in the Saif Power Battery Bangladesh Premier League 2017 with a 2-0 win over Farashganj Sporting Club at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday evening.

Chittagong Abahoni, after squandering a couple of chances, at last succeeded to take the lead in the 42nd minute off an own goal of Muktijoddha defender Malik Mendy who placed the ball into his own net trying to clear a low cross of Jahid Hossain (1-0).

In the last minute of the first half, forward Towhidul Alam Sobuj headed in the second goal for the port city outfit off a free-kick curved in by Jahid from the right flank (2-0).

In the second half, Chittagong Abahoni took a 'go slow' approach concentrating on keeping a clean sheet.

The Abahoni front-men were also denied by a couple of good save by Farashganj goalie Ashim Das.

Farashganj tried hard but their attacking third lacked the cutting edge to break down the Abahoni defence line.
