Grameen Danone Nations Cup final round starts tomorrow

Dhaka, June 05: The two-day Grameen Danone Nation Cup’s final round will kick-off tomorrow at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

The eight zonal champions who have already arrived here, will fight in this knockout phase and the winning team will go to South Africa where forty-five teams from as many nations will play in the finals. Last year’s forty finalists will join them after the event supposed to be held in Brazil in 2009 was postponed due to a swine flu outbreak. Last year’s winners Khulna will accompany this year’s champions.
“We are arranging this contest on the eve of the World Cup so that the children can feel the passion of the biggest tournament in the world,” said Bangladesh Football Federation’s Executive Committee and Development Committee member Satyajit Das Rupu in a press meet at the BFF house today.
BFF executive committee member and co-ordinator of the tournament Fazlur Rahman Babul and BFF general secretary Al Musabbir Sadi were also present.

Bangladesh Football Federation is providing all kind of support to the teams, including accommodation, food and conveyance.

Participants of the finals are Comilla from Brahmanbaria zone, Tangail from Gazipur zone, Kushtia from Meherpur zone, Bogra from Sirajganj zone, Rajbari from Rajbari zone, Thakurgaon from Thakurgaon zone, Jassore from Bagerhat zone and Jhalkathi from Barisal zone.
