Football fever in Dhaka

Dhaka June 16: The World Cup is upon us again, bringing with it, its all-conquering game spirit and heat waves of 'football fever' all the way from South Africa to Dhaka. The near about twenty million inhabitants of the capital of Bangladesh are celebrating the World Cup with huge interest. Numerous flags of the participating nations are waving in the streets and on the roofs of the houses, shops and even offices. The appearing team jerseys and other World Cup related products are being sold in huge numbers. People wearing t-shirts with big names are seen everywhere in the city. The media is also covering the competition with great importance. Football has become the common topic of gossips. It’s a very familiar scene in every place of the capital that people are arguing on the issue “who will be the champions.”

Public screening of the World Cup matches is taking place at different points of the metropolis. Bangladesh Football Federation is also showing the matches live on big screen on the BFF House premises. A lot of people gather at the BFF to watch the matches despite rain and a very busy life. A big crowd is always there from the evening to midnight and approximately ten thousand people enjoyed the Brazil- North Korea match after midnight yesterday.
