fed cup logo small.jpgDhaka , Oct 21: Brothers Union maintained their impressive run in the Grameenphone Federation Cup when they shocked defending champions Mohammedan Sporting Club 2-0 at the Birsreshtha Shahid Sipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium, Kamalapur today to stay top of Group B with six maximum points.

On the other hand, Mohammedans’ chances to play the semifinals suffered a setback as they could manage only one point from two matches.

Earlier, James Moga’s hattrich helped Muktijoddha Shangsad to raise their points to four blanking Feni Soccer Club 3-0 at the same venue. Soccer Club could not collect any point as they lost all of their matches.

Mohammedan were looking helpless against the all oranges’ frequent attacks. The black and whites could rarely split the Brothers’ defensive wall consisting of skipper Yusuf Ali Khan, Tofajjal Hossain Apu, Ashraful Karim and Brazilian youngster Danilo Santos. The Dhaka giants became more vulnerable when they lost central defender Emeka Lucky Uti who was sent off in the first half’s stoppage time for his second bookable offense.

Mohammedan got first of their prominent two chances in the 15th minute. Zahidul Islam provided a good cross from right flank but Anower Hossain failed to connect in front of an empty post.

Borthers Union’s Brazilian forward Everton Souza Santos scored his third goal of the competition from a Faisal Mahmood short pass from a melee in the 22nd minute to put his team ahead.

Everton generated a good attack in the 68th minute when he forwarded the ball to Tanmay Hossain Taru but Taru’s powerful shot on target was punched away by Mohammedan’s impressive custodian Titumir Chowdhury Titu.

Mohammedan captain Enamul Haque Sharif found the rival goalie in an one on one situation but Brothers’ defender Ashraful Karim cleared the ball with a sliding effort rushing from behind in the 81st minute.

In the minute before the final whistle Brothers Union’s Ghanaian forward Enock Bentil sealed the match scoring from an Everton pass from the right flank.

In the day’s first match, a rejuvenated Muktijoddha rode on treble star Moga to earn an easy victory over Soccer Club. Moga grabbed a back pass by visiting defender Nurul Amin Shipon and utilized the advantage by placing at the back of the net eight minutes after the start.

Sudanese spearhead Moga chipped over opponent goalkeeper Pearujjaman Piru’s head to score his second of the match after an Alamgir Kabir Rana pass three minutes later.

Moga got his hattrick and his fifth goal of the tournament drilling home a Bukola Olalikan right side pass in the 76th minute to ensure the second position for his team in the group table.
