Brothers stun Russel
Dhaka, March 2: Brothers Union tasted their first victory of the season when they defeated Sheikh Russel KC by 1-0 in the lone match of the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
After the win, Brothers Union moved up to the 6th position in the points table with 5 points from 5 matches while Sheikh Russel remained at the 3rd position with 8 points from the same number of matches.
Sheikh Russel came close to a strike in the 29th minute as forward Anwar’s shot off a Yeamin cross from the left flank saved by Brothers goalie Uttam Barua with a right hand punch.
Brothers’ lone chance came in the 36th minute when Nigerian striker Kingsley’s shot missed the post after having one and one situation with Russel’s goalie Biplob.
After the break, both teams put considerable pressure and tried to break the deadlock.
Sheikh Russel missed another chance when Yosuf’s shot went over the crosspiece off a Nigerian striker Bukolar’s pass in the 53rd minute.
Russel could have scored the opener in the 73rd minute but forward Anwar’s shot hit the side post.
However, Nigerian striker Kingsley Chigozie took the chance in the 79th minute and scored the winning goal by a header after a Jamal Hossain cross from the right flank. (1-0).
