Jamal bounce back to winning ways
Dhaka, March 4: Defending champions Shiekh Jamal bounced back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd in the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday.
Femi Orunimi, the Nigerian winger of Sheikh Jamal hit the Mohammedan crosspiece in the 4th minute and Kester Akon, the Nigerian forward headed the rebounder straight to Mohammedan's goalie Himel.
But Femi Orunimi put Jamal ahead in the 9th minute with a powerful free kick from 35 yards that beat Himel in the far post (1-0).
The lead was doubled in the 22nd minute and Cameroonian midfielder Yoko Samnick was the scorer. Femi Orunimi curved a corner from the right hand flag and defender Yusuf volleyed the ball that deflected off the defence line, unmarked Samnick placed the ball inside the net from the top of the six yard box (2-0).
Mohammedan reduced the margin in the 52nd minute through Wahed. Taking a Yasin pass at the top of the box Wahed unleashed a grounder to beat Aminul in the near post
(2-1).
Basden Wilcox, the Nigerian forward of Mohammedan missed an open net in the 83rd minute after Mehedi Hasan Topu set him free with a nice chip but Wilcox placed the ball over the crosspiece.
Jamal took their tally to seven points from six matches while Mohammedan remained on their previous five from five matches.
