Brothers stun Muktijoddha
Dhaka, March 8: Brothers Union stunned table toppers Muktijoddha by 2-1 goals in the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
Nigerian duo Brothers Union Kingley Chigozie and Joshua Olalekan scored the goals that was enough to insert the first defeat of Muktijoddha.
Brothers put the early pressure and in the 7th minute Nigerian forward Kingsley Chigozie’s head on a compatriot Olalekan Joshua cross was punched away by Muktijoddha goalie Mostak.
However Muktijoddha took the lead in the 23rd minute as forward Emily headed on a Nasiruddin cross past Brothers goalie Uttam Barua (1-0).
Brothers tried hard for an equalizer and in the 35th minute Kingsley Chigozie’s head from a corner was fisted by Mostak and Adams Jankasha’s shot on the rebounder was cleared by defender Ariful from the goal line.
Kingley again in the 44th minute saw his header off a Didarul Alam cross saved by Mostak for a corner.
Kingley scored the equalizer in the 64th minute after Olalelan Joshua back headed a long ball from the midfield and the Nigerian fired home from the middle of the box (1-1).
Brothers stunned Muktijoddha in the 74th minute as Olalekan Joshua taking the ball from the midfield beat Mostak from the left edge of the box with a beautiful curling shot (2-1).
After playing six matches Muktijoddha has 13 points while Brothers took their tally to 8 points.
