Jamal set new record in 8-0 win
Dhaka, March 20: Sheikh Jamal set the record of the biggest win in the Bangladesh Premier League beating Uttar Baridhara 8-0 in the Nitol-Tata Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
Nigerian forward Emeka Darlington scored four and Haitian striker Wedson Anselme slammed a hat-trick. No team has ever scored eight goals in the Bangladesh Premier League. The previous record was seven goals and a number of teams attained the mark earlier. With the win Jamal also moved to the top of the table. This was also the last match of the first phase.
Emeka Darlington started the rout in the 10th minute with a neat header on a Yamin Munna cross that was curved from the left flank (1-0).
Darlington netted his second in the 21st minute after taking a through pass of Mamunul Islam and placed the ball into the net after dodging a defender inside the box (2-0).
Haitian marksman Wedson put Jamal on a three goal cushion in the 35th minute after right back Linkon fed him with a neat cross from the and Wedson’s head landed into the near post (3-0)
An onrushing Linkon was brought down by Baridhara defender Khalekuzzaman inside the box in the 36th minute and Darlingon made no mistake to hit the back of the net from the spot (4-0). It was his second hat-trick and over all the third of the league.
Darlington scored his fourth in the 54th minute with a neat header as he met Rony’s cross in the middle of the box (5-0)
Wedson netted his second in the 63rd minute with a precise from the middle of the box (6-0)
Wedson’s treble was completed in the 77th minute as the Haitian blasted home with a right footer (7-0)
Skipper Mamunul Islam scored the record breaking goal in the 87th minute with a left footed floater (8-0)
Sheikh Jamal moved to the top of the table with 21 points while Uttar Baridhara remained on their previous collection of 6 points.
