Dhaka, April 4: Abahani Ltd moved into the semifinal of the Modhumoti Bank Independence Cup beating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club 2-1 in the 4th quarterfinal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.

Abahani would have taken the lead in the very first minute after Jamal goalie Ziaur Rahman lost the grip of an easy shot of Abahani’s Portuguese forward Leonildo Suares but Osie Morrison failed to send the ball in, he hit the sidepost from a very close range. 

In the 22nd minute Suares cut a square pass to Shahedul Alam Shahed but the Abahani midfielder ‘s shot was too weak to bother Zia.

Sheikh Jamal took the lead in the 34th minute after substitute midfielder Sohel Rana sent a neat through pass to Haitian forward Wedson who chipped the ball into the far post (1-0)

Abahani  equalized in the 57th minute off a penalty and Suares converted the spot kick (1-1)

Suares put Abahani ahead in the 67th minute. Taking a through pass of Osie Morrison Suarez  went past his marker and shot the ball into the far post net from the middle of the box (2-1)

Abahani will play against Dhaka Mohammedan in the semifinal.
