Thailand finished atop
Dhaka, February 03: Thailand topped the group B and moved into semis beating Bahrain 3-0 in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
Singapore also moved into the semis as group B runners-up.
In the 29th minute Salman Abdullah of Bahrain pushed a through pass to forward Ali Hazza Ateeq Mobarak whose placing was saved for a corner by Thainad goalie Yos Somporn.
Thailand took the lead in the 35th minute through of an own goal when Bahrain defender Abdullah Ali’s header on a free kick of Veerachart Chaowat landed in the far post. (1-0)
Bahrain had chance to level the score in the 47th minute but forward Ali Hazza Ateeq Mobarak free kick was fisted by Thai goalie Yos Somporn. Midfielder Jafar Sabah Hossain again took shot on the rebound but the goalie Yos Somporn saved it from the goalline.
Bahrain conceded the 2nd goal from a penalty in the 52nd minute as their defender Ali Maharoofi brought downed Thailand forward Parmpak Pakorn in the danger zone. Forward Parmpak Pakorn converted the spot kick. (2-0)
In the 56th minute forward Pimkoon Jaturong scored third goal for Thailand. Midfielder Nimboon Narutchai put through pass to Pimkoon Jaturong who dribbled past his marker and placed the ball into the net. (3-0)
Thailand will face Bangladesh on 6 February at the Bangabandhu National Stadium while Malaysia will play against Singapore on 5 February at Sylhet District Stadium.
