Jamal beat Russel
Dhaka, July 21: Holders Sheikh Jamal powered a 4-3 win over Sheikh Russell in the 2nd leg of Manyavar Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
Gambian midfielder Landing Darboe put Jamal ahead in the 12th minute with an intelligent goal. Standing alone at the top of the box, Landing received a back pass of Nigerian forward Emeka Darlington and kept his cool to slot the ball into the near post (1-0)
However Jahid Hossain equalized in 24th minute with a outstanding strike. Midfielder Mithun Chowdhury set Jahid free with a neat low chip at the top of the box, Jahid went past his marker with a soft touch and placed the ball past Jamal goalie Shahidul Alam Sohel (1-1)
Emeka Darlington brought the Jamal dominance back in the 39th minute when his side header from the middle of the box and on a short chip of Wedson Anselme beat Russell goalie Mamun Khan in the far post (2-1)
Nigerian forward of Sheikh Russell Kingsley Chigozie leveled the scoreline again in the 55th minute when a free kick taken by Waly Faisal deflected off the head of his fellow attacker Jean Jules Ikanga and Kingsley forced the ball into the net with a delicate header (2-2)
Russell was in the lead again in the 85th minute and it was a superb strike of Bosnian midfielder Damir Ibric, Zahid Hasan Emily floated a cross from the right flank, Jean Jules Ikanga headed the ball in the middle of the box and Ibric who was playing his first match hit a superb back volley into the middle of the net (3-2)
Wedson saved the day for Jamal in the 90th minute as he scored the third for Jamal in the 90th minute with a solo effort (3-3)
The win was secured by Jamal defender Md. Linkon whose angular shot from the right edge of the box on a angular pass of Landing Darboe beat Russell goalie Mamun Khan in the far post (4-3)
Jamal has 39 points from 16 matches while Russell has 29 from 15 matches.
