Ctg Abahani in semis
Dhaka, April 22: Chittagong Abahani survived in the
battle of existence in a battling 1-1 draw against Sheikh Jamal in the group A
match of KFC Independence Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
The draw saw Jamal top the group with 13 points
and Chittagong Abahani finish runners-up with ten points.
Leonel Praux, the Chittagong Abahani forward
squandered a chance in the 2nd minute. The Haitian entered into the
box with the ball shot wide having one
on one situation with Maksudur Rahman, the Jamal goalie.
Nigerian forward Emeka Darlington put Jamal
ahead from a penalty in the 19th minute. Ctg Abahani goalie Ashraful
Islam Rana brought down Emeka Darlington in the danger zone and referee
whistled for penalty. Darlington converted the
spot kick. (1-0)
Ctg Abahani almost leveled the scoreline in the
66th minute but Leonel Praux’s powerful shot was punched for safety by Jamal
goalie Maksudur Rahman for corner.
Ctg Abahani’s equalizer came in the 74th
when Nigerian defender Alison Uduka headed the ball into the near post net on a
free kick provided by Moroccan midfielder Tarik El Janaby. (1-1)
