Jamal earns first victory
Dhaka, 26 April 2016: Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club earned their first victory in the AFC Cup beating Tampines Rovers 3-2 in Group E match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
Jamal survived a scare in the 16th minute when Rovers midfielder Jordan Webb’s long throw landed in the middle of the box and Billy Mehmet headed the ball to Fazrul Nawaz Shahrul Hamid, Hamid headed the ball low in the middle of the net but Jamal goalie Himel pulled out a reflex save and fisted the ball for a corner.
However Jamal took the lead with a quick counter attack in the 20th minute when Wedson Anselme, the Haitian forward of Jamal broke free in the midfield, fed Emeka Darlington with a square pass, Emeka instead of taking a shot passed the ball to Landing Darboe who hit the far post net with an angular placing shot (1-0)
Jamal was close to extend the lead in the 34th minute but Wedson Ansleme’s left footed placing shot from the top of the box missed the far post by a whisker.
Tampines Rovers restored the parity in the 45th minute with defender Mustafa Fahruddin beating Himel with a low header, Jeramine Pennant cut a curved corner from the right hand flag that beat the defence in the air, Fahruddin sneaked through the defence and headed a the ball low into the near post (1-1)
Jamal was in the driving seat again in the 55th minute with Wedson converting a penalty. The Haitian was running down the left flank and was brought down by defender Mustafa Fahruddin at the left edge of the box, Wedosn stepped up and made no mistake from the spot (2-1)
Tampines Rovers restored the parity again the 70th minute with Billy Mehmet pounding a rebound in the middle of the net from the middle of the box (2-2)
Landing Darboe added the winner in the 82nd minute with Wedson paving the way for him and Landing finished the job with a cool headed finishing 3-2
