Abahani oust Russell
Dhaka, June 24: Abahani Ltd moved into the final of Walton
Federation Cup beating Sheikh Russell 2-1 in the second semifinal at the Bangabandhu
National Stadium on Friday.
In the very first minute of the match Fikru Tefera, the
Ethiopian forward of Sheikh Russell ran
down the right flank and found Abahani goalie Shahidul alam Sohel alone under
the bar but saw his shot land in the outside net.
Abahani took the lead in the fifth minute of the match when
left back Wali Faisal curved a free kick from the left flank and Nigerian
forward Sunday Chizoba took the control
with his chest, trying a back volley towards the goal, the ball flew in front of
Senegalese forward Camara Sarra who headed the ball home (1-0).
Three minutes later Abahani came close towards their second
strike, it was Camara Sarra who paved the way for Sunday with a nice through
pass past defence but Sunday’s falt footed placing missed the side post.
In the 38th minute Sunday managed to sneak past
the Russell defence and provided a square pass to Camara Sarra whose placing
shot but Russell goalie Russell Mahmud Liton pulled out a save with his foot.
Russell came back into the game in the 64th minute and it was a super combination of Cameronian Paul Emile and Rumman
Hossain. Playing a perfect one-two Emile made Rumman free at the middle of the
box and Rumman placed the ball past onrushing Sohel (1-1)
However Abahani was in the driving seat again in the 69th
minute when Sunday Chizoba curved a
right footer from the left edge of the box that stunned Russel Mahmud Liton in
the near post (2-1)
Abahani faces Arambagfh in the final on 27th June.
