A mixed bag for U16

Japan, January 28: Bangladesh U-16 Women’s Team has won one, lost one and drawn another match on the first day of the J Green Sakai Ladies' Festival.

The girls played three 40-minute matches against Japanese academy and professional teams on January 28 in Japan’s second largest city Osaka.

The first match of the day was against AC Imabari, which is a JFA funded academy. This match at Dream Camp of J Green Sakai Academy ended in a goalless draw.

Bangladeshi goalkeeper Mahmuda made two crucial saves during the first half of the match, which helped the girls hold the Japanese team to 0-0. Shamsunnahar had a shot at a penalty in the 19th minute, which hit the cross bar. The second half of the match was quite even as Sanjida, Nila, Anai Mogini and goalkeeper Ruksana played their parts effectively.

The second match was against Cerezo Osaka Sakai Girl’s Team, which Bangladesh lost 2-0.

In the first half of the match, the Bengal girls defended very well, managing to defend one on target and five off-target shots. However, team Cerezo got the upper hand in the second half as they scored a goal from a free kick on the 28th minute. The Japanese girls again passed the ball past the net two minutes later after getting the ball to a forward in the close range.

Cerezo Osaka Sakai Girl’s Team are a professional club based in the port city of Osaka, who are also the titile holders of the Japanese U-15 Girls Championship. In total, 5 Japanese national team players play for this club.

The third match in the same venue against Naguya Ladies Team ended in a 2-1 win for the Bengal Girls. They conceded one goal early on, in the 5th minute, and the first half ended with the Japanese team leading 1-0.

In the second half, Bangladesh made some tactical changes, and Shopna managed to go around the goalkeeper and scored the first goal for the team in an empty net on the 24th minute. The second goal came on the 32nd minute. Krishna had aimed for the nets, but the goalkeeper returned it to Shopna, who scored for the team for the second time from 6 yards out.

The third and final match in J Green Sakai Academy’s Dream Camp had ended with a pleasing performance from the Red and Greens.
