Dhaka, Nov 11: Bangladesh’s desire of playing in the second round of Asian Games football came to an end with their 4-1 lose against Hong Kong at the Haudu Stadium, Guanzhou today.
After this triumph Hong Kong finished at the second position of group E table with seven points whereas UAE outplayed Uzbekistan by three goals in the day’s other match to finish at the top in goal deference as they earned parallel points to the Chinese side. Uzbekistan is the third team of the group with only three points which they earned beating Bangladesh.
Hong Kong got an early lead taking the advantage of Bangladesh’s defensive errors. Hong Kong’s skipper put a long pass between two Red and green defenders in the danger zone one minute after the game started. Hong Kong’s Young striker Yiu Chung rushed on the ball and finished on the back of the net from close.
Prolific Bangladeshi striker Enamul Haque brought some excitement by equalizing in the 24th minute. He got the ball inside Hong Kong’s penalty zone while a Mamunul free kick was cleared by an all red defender. Enamul’s shot on target deflected on a Hong Kong defender before beating the goalie Hung Fai.
But Bangladesh fall behind again in the 33rd minute after a Waly Faisal mistake. Waly fumbled a long hop ball by Hong Kong’s midfielder Hung Ting near the six yard box. Yiu Chung made no mistake to utilize the opportunity. He disturbed the back net with a strong left footer.
Yiu Chungs striking partner Ying Zhi Ju beat Bangladeshi skipper Aminul with a curving thirty yarder in the 41st minute to make it 3-1. Aminul failed to judge the course of the swinging ball.
Mamunul rattled the cross piece from a set piece in the next minute but that did not make any impact on the Hong Kong dominated match.
Hong Kong’s youngster Man Fi Chan put the last nail on Bangladesh’s coffin by scoring with an aerial drive from the edge of the box three minutes before the final whistle.
Bangladesh coach Robert Rubcic praised Hong Kong in the post match press briefing. “They played better than our expectation. They are quick and they ran a lot,” he said.
“My boys were playing well and they were more aggressive than the previous matches. We conceded because of our defensive errors, which is a result of fatigue as the players came through a very busy schedule,” the Croatian coach added.
