Dhaka, Jan 22: Brothers Union registered their first victory in the Grameenphone Bangladesh League as they upset Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club 2-0 at the BSSM Mostafa Kamal Stadium today.
This is the second consecutive defeat for Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Bangladesh League after getting first defeat to Rahamatganj 2-0 last match.
The Dhaka giants found themselves in trouble when Brazilian defensive midfielder Denilo Rafael Vivaldo and striker Taru put the Gopibagh outfit ahead after 49 minutes and 88 minutes.
However, Dhaka Mohammedan tried to return the match but lack of a good finisher was their Achilles heel.
Brother’s Brazilian recruit Everton was the hero of the match as he was the source of both goals. Brothers took the charge from start but Brazilian recruit Everton Souza’s shot went over cross bar after a one-two attack with Rezaul Karim Liton in the 18th minute.
Mohammedan’s striker Ridon missed the best opportunity early in the second half when his shot failed to find home having got the open net from Anower’s cross.
Brazilian defensive midfielder Denilo Rafael Vivaldo broke the deadlock for Brothers in the 49th minute as his header defeated Mohammedan Ghananian goalkeeper Mohammed Al Hasan on his fellow Everton’s free kick from just out site of the box.
The Gopibagh outfit’s second goal came just two minutes before the final whistle when Toru’s long shot from edge of the box area found the net on a cutback by Everton from the left.
Brother’s officials and players felt relief confirming first win in the league after three draws and one loss. "We played very well every match but did not get any win. Our back touched the wall. So, we have nothing to think without win. We deserve the win. Hope, this win will turn into our habit. “said Brothers Manager Amer Khan.
Mohammedan coach Shafikul Islam Manik is not upset after getting second consecutive defeat. “I am not upset because my young boys tried to give their best in the match. Only different between two teams, we missed our opportunity and they didn’t. Our foreign players were not playing well. Besides, we missed out two experiences players lucky and Hasan Al Manun. We have enough time to come back. Inshallah we will return soon in league,” said title contender coach.
