Dhaka Jan 25: Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi club came back to winning ways in the Grameenphone Bangladesh League as they defeated Farashganj 2-0 at the BSSM Mostafa Kamal Stadium today.
With the day’s result, Sheikh Jamal, who collected only one point from the last two games with a draw and a loss, secured 8 points while Farashganj remained at six points, both playing five matches.
The Dhanmondi outfit got their first goal on early in the second half rather fortunately when Farashganj defender Rony’s back header beat their own goalkeeper Tariq while trying to clear a cross by rival striker Enamul.
After getting the first goal, Packer Ali’s men became enthusiastic and came into all out charge. As a result, they doubled the lead just nine minutes later.
Left winger Shakil Ahmed then connected a through ball by Enamul to beat rival kepper Tariq with his low and angular drive from long distance to seal Sheikh Jamal’s second win.
After conceding two goals, the old Dhaka side were trying to reduce the level with heart and soul but all their efforts went in vain due to lack of good finishers.
Earlier, Sheikh Jamal got the first scoring chance in the 35th minute, but Komol’s shot went directly to the goalkeeper.
Toward the end of first half, Farashganj were twice denied by the bar as foreign recruit Nigerian striker Kalu Johson and Amadi Moses saw their efforts bounced backed.
Sheikh Jamal was defeated by Arambagh 1-0 while Farashganj beat Chittogong Abahani by 1-0, both in their respective fourth round matches.
The winning team coach Packer Ali was delighted as his team got win under his leadership after taking the assign. “The boys played as per my planned today. I am very satisfied with them. We badly needed the win. Now our moral became high. We will try to keep the tempo high in the next matches. He did not play last two or three matches. I tried to bring his real power. I hope will get score soon,” said the Lankan.
Despite of 2-0 defeat, Farashganj coach Kamal Babu was happy with his boys’ performance. “ It is hard to win against the big team like Sheikh Jamal. Boys tried to giving their best in the game. So, I am completely happy with my boys’ performance,” said the old Dhaka outfit’s coach.
