Dhaka, Jan 29: Arambagh Krira Sangha held Sheikh Russell in the GrameenPhone Bangladesh League when the rank-outsiders drew 1-1 with the title contenders in a sixth round match at the BSSM Mostafa Kamal Stadium today.
After an upset 3-0 defeat to Muktijoddha in the fifth round, the Dhaka giants found themselves in trouble when Guinean striker Bangura Ismael put Arambagh ahead after 43 minutes.
Ismael broke the deadlock as his header found the net from a cross by Khan Sharif from the left side.
However, Russel levelled the score inside nine minutes through Moroccan forward Chahrout Yousef to rescue a point.
Sheikh Russel, who are now on 11 points, got their goal when Chahrout tapped in on a rebound Mohhammed Yusuf’s effort came off the right post.
Arambagh’s first chance came in the 36th minute when Dalim intercepted a pass by their rivals but he forced only a corner as his shot was saved by Russel goalkeeper Al Amin.
Russel got a great chance to take lead in the 58th minute but Charles’ header on a Yousef cross missed the mark narrowly..
With three wins and two draws, Russel are in the third place while Arambagh’s six points put them in the eighth position with one win and three draws.
