Rahmatganj hold Russel
Dhaka, February 9: Sheikh Russell drew 1-1 with Rahmatganj in the lone match of the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
The opening minutes were dull as both of the teams failed to show the required application and play was confined in the midfield most of the time.
The game came to life in the 36th minute when Rahmatganj’s Nigerian forward Lucky Divine was pulled down by Russell defender Aminul in the middle of the box and the referee awarded a penalty to Rahmatganj. Nigerian forward Nche Francis scored from the penalty (1-0).
Russell tried hard but never got the finishing touch. In the 40th minute Moro Mohammed, the Moroccan striker’s low shot was saved for a corner by Rahmatganj goalie Shujon Chowdhury. In the 82nd minute Nigerian forward Bukola shot straight to Shujon.
But in the 88th minute Rahmatganj defender Micheal Ddumba handled the ball over the goalline as Russell defender Aminul headed a Moro Mohammed back volley towards the goal, Bukola equalized from the penalty (1-1).
Russell earlier drew with Feni Soccer while Rahmatganj lost to Abahani.
