MSC hold Abahani 1-1
Dhaka, February 17: Dhaka Mohammedan held Dhaka Abahani to a 1-1 draw in the high profile match of the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
Mohammedan was the livelier side in the opening minutes and rocked Abahani twice in the first ten minutes. Nigerian forward Basden Wilcox’s suddenly taken shot from the middle of the box was saved for a corner by Abahani goalie Shahidul Alam Sohel in the 5th minute.
In the next minute Mohammedan midfielder Sohel Rana curved a cross to Wilcox at the top of the six yard box but the tall Nigerian’s head was kicked to safety by Shahidul Alam Sohel.
Shahidul Alam Sohel again denied Wilcox in the 10th minute as he dived full to punch the grounder away.
However it was Abahani who took the lead in the 44th minute. Winger Jahid initiated a corner from the right hand flag and defender Nasir chipped it to Awudu Ibrahim who tapped it to his attacking partner Lucky Paul Otofe who placed the ball in the far post net (1-0).
Twum Frank, the Ghanaian forward of Abahani hit the side post in the 58th minute.
Wilcox equalized in the 60th minute Wahed headed a long ball to Wilcox at the left edge of the six yard box and the Nigerian headed the ball into the opposite post (1-1).
Abahani piled up pressure in the dying minutes of the match but could not break the stalemate.
Abahani has seven points from three matches while Mohammedan has four points from two matches
